Songs of The Day: Chris Britton – Sit Down Beside Me (1969), and The Troggs – 66-5-4-3-2-1 (1966)

Happy birthday, Chris Britton! In addition to his vicious axe slinging with those neanderthal hitmaking lovers of Pop melody and Proto-Punk bash, The Troggs, Britton released a fine solo slice of Psychedelia, 1969’s, As I Am.

While everyone is familiar with Wild Thing’s deservedly iconic riff, the slashing chords of 66-5-4-3-2-1, paired with the songs primitive rhythm and suggestive lyrics, make for an even more potent punk cocktail. In a just world, Britton’s name would be as well known as other 60’s British Rock guitar pioneers like Dave Davies, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, etc. Here’s to you, Chris!
