It’s all in the eyes: Kathleen Byron, as Sister Ruth, in Black Narcissus

I watched Powell and Pressburger’s, 1947 Drama, Black Narcissus, and, per usual with their films, was absolutely knocked out by it’s sheer beauty (which to an audience of it’s time, unused to such color in film, must have been mind blowing). What shocked me however, was the amount of emotion that actress Kathleen Byron was able to portray, with just a look.

From wiki: “According to film critic David Thomson “Black Narcissus is that rare thing, an erotic English film about the fantasies of nuns, startling whenever Kathleen Byron is involved.”. Ocular spoilers ahead.
