Happy birthday to the world’s most recorded vocalist, Asha Bhosle

According to 2011’s Guinness Book of World Records listing, Asha Bhosle holds the distinction of “most recorded artist in music history” (a title disputed by both older sister Lata Mangeshkar, and composer Mohammed Rafi), starting in the late 40’s and continuing to this day, amassing  a catalog of more than 12,000 songs (many with her husband, the legendary composer, RD Burman). Needless to say, Bhosle’s voice is ubiquitous to any fan of Bollywood and it’s myriad soundtracks. Despite her popularity and lengthy career, Bhosle is currently performing her first ever stateside gigs, with September 13th’s New Jersey Performing Arts Center show being her last. Considering it’s taken her 65+ years to get here, and she’s 82, it might be your only chance to catch this living legend.
