MC Serch tells amazing Bushwick Bill story involving a brick, bricks, guns, and sibling rivalry.

And this probably isn’t even in the Top 20 of Bushwick Bill stories waiting to be told.

You’ve gotta be kidding me… Clarence Reid, aka Blowfly, has died of cancer

I’m going to do a post on the Clarence Reid material later, for now let’s have a good last laugh in the weird, and so un-PC, world of Blowfly.

Happy birthday to the original freak-a-holic, Greg Broussard, aka The Egyptian Lover

The Egyptian Lover is alive and kicking, doing DJ sets and producing tracks booming 808’s like it’s 1984. Freak this!

I like how in the background of this interview there’s a Blade Runner 45, and a Birth Control comp. He also name drops Pretty Tony and Juan Atkins.

It’s Kool Moe Dee’s birthday

Time for some Treacherous Three and, of course, the lyrical beatdown that Kool Moe Dee handed to Busy Bee at the Harlem World, Battle of The Heavyweights, 1981. This battle is one of the most infamous in Hip-Hop history and changed the game up, with Kool Moe Dee ushering in a new Rap language. I wish there was video of the crowd for this shit.

Was playing this 12″ yesterday, unaware of today’s birthday.

Some residents in West Price Hill, Ohio, chose instead to call the FCC.

It turned out someone had pirated the signal for 87.9 FM to play nothing but Geto Boys uncut and commercial free. As one of the local residents noted, he did not approve of kids being able to hear such language on the radio. Even local Hip-Hop artist Ilyas Nashid was puzzled as to the motivation of the pirating station. I’d argue against looking a gift horse in the mouth, but the point is moot now. The station is currently playing static and that will probably be the end of that.

If only there…
